What is Agriculture?  ›

Webster defines agriculture as the science, art, or practice of cultivating the soil, producing crops, and raising livestock and in varying degrees the preparation and marketing of the resulting products: Farming.  While the above definition is true, contemporary agriculture also includes a more inclusive list of working in areas such as natural resources and environmental systems, government agencies, service systems, food systems, equipment systems, life sciences, chemical and pharmaceutical systems, and biotechnology.  You can log on to the AgForLife Map – Virtual Career Guide to visually see the broad opportunities in agriculture, food and life sciences in a holistic manner and to learn more about the broad areas impacted by our industry.
